INTRODUCTION ABOUT INSTGRA 50MG TABLET

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET contains Dolutegravir which belongs to the group of medicines called Integrase inhibitors. INSTGRA 50MG TABLET is used to treat HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection in adults, and children (aged 6 years/above) who should weigh at-least 14 kg/above.

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Dolutegravir.

Before taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are suffering from advanced HIV infection and/or have weak immune system (prone to serious infections), kidney problems (such as mild to severe renal impairment), and liver problems (such as mild to moderate hepatic impairment).

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary since the medicine may increase the risk of birth defect (such as neural tube defect/malformed spinal cord) in unborn baby.  It is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as the medicine may pass through breastmilk.

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (aged below 6 years) and in children who weigh less than 14 kg and who are resistant to other medicines similar to INSTGRA 50MG TABLET. It is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects of taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET are headache, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itching, and/or rash. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

HOW INSTGRA 50MG TABLET WORKS

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET works by reducing the amount of virus in the body which results in increased count of CD4 cell (white blood cell that helps body to fight infection) in blood treating HIV and preventing the occurrence other infections in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take INSTGRA 50MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF INSTGRA 50MG TABLET

COMMON

  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, wind

  • Signs of infection such as fever, chills, shortness of breath, and/or nasal congestion

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

If INSTGRA 50MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.

Nausea and vomiting:

Take INSTGRA 50MG TABLET with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.

Diarrhea:

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Rashes:

Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

PREGNANCY

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary since the medicine may increase the risk of birth defect (such as neural tube defect/malformed spinal cord) in unborn baby. Women of childbearing potential should use contraceptive measures (such as condoms/pills) while in treatment with INSTGRA 50MG TABLET to prevent pregnancy and should inform doctor immediately if accidental pregnancy occurs. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as the medicine may pass through breastmilk.  Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate machines, if you feel dizzy or have other side effects that make you less alert after taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET since it may increase the risk of occurrence of osteonecrosis (segmental bone death due to impaired blood supply).

KIDNEY

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems such as mild, moderate/severe renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET.

LIVER

INSTGRA 50MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems such as mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET.

ALLERGY

Do not take INSTGRA 50MG TABLET if you are allergic to Dolutegravir, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

Before taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

A. Drug – Drug interactions:

Before taking INSTGRA 50MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • Fampridine (used to treat multiple sclerosis)
  • Metformin (used to treat diabetes)
  • Antacids (used to treat indigestion and heartburn)
  • Calcium supplements, iron supplements, and multivitamins
  • Etravirine, efavirenz, fosamprenavir/ritonavir, nevirapine or tipranavir/ritonavir (used to treat HIV infection)
  • Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis and other bacterial infections)
  • Phenytoin, phenobarbital (used to treat epilepsy)
  • Oxcarbazepine, carbamazepine (treat epilepsy/bipolar disorder)
  • St. John’s wort (herbal medicine used to treat depression)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of INSTGRA 50MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital to manage overdose symptoms.
